Report: PS3 Wipeout Failing Epilepsy Tests

Dying to get your hands on Wipeout HD? First, Sony needs to make sure that the high-speed racing game doesn't put people into epileptic seizures, says one report.

CVG is reporting that Wipeout HD, a futuristic racing game that moves at a fast clip and features lots of shiny neon decorations, "fails the epilepsy tests so much that it has to be re-engineered."

Wow, I didn't even know they had epilepsy tests for video games, although I suppose it makes sense.

Being a Pokémon fan, I know all about this stuff...

Ever since Dennou Senshi Porygon aired in Japan and gave a few hundred kids seizures, there's been an unspoken "no fast color changes" in video games and TV shows... if you look at old anime vs. new, the effects of that "experimental episode gone wrong" are clear.

Though the funny thing is I've run into plenty of arcade machines that use strobe lights and other rapid flashing, and they don't have a seizure warning anywhere. Maybe just the ones made in Japan have that limitation?
