Analyst: Slow HDTV Sales Hurting PS3 Sales

A November report from the NPD Group shows a large disparity between sales of the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. One obvious reason is the difference in price, but Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter suggests that the difference is also due to the sagging sales of HDTVs.

"We believe that PS3 sales are being impacted by lower demand for HD televisions as a result of the recession," Pachter said via GamesIndustry.biz.

That's partly true because to get the best out of the PS3's features (like Blu-ray), you need an HDTV. However, the same is also true for the Xbox 360, maybe not for movie playback, but definitely for games, so I don't think the slower sale of HDTV has that much of an effect. The PS3 is supposed to drive HDTV sales, not the other way around.
