Game/Blu-ray Combo Discs: Sony's New Hope?

In an interview with Video Business, John Koller, director of hardware marketing for the PS3, revealed that Sony's next big strategy for the system will be Blu-ray/Videogame combo discs. According to the report, Sony is actively working with movie studios and production houses to release double-feature discs that allow consumers to have both a full-quality Blu-ray movie and the game based on it all on one disc.

First of all, movie to video game adaptations usually suck, and if you really do want to buy the game of the movie, you probably would have bought the movie already, probably already on Blu-ray (being an ultra huge fan that owes a PS3 and is willing to waste money on crap games). There will be a percentage of people that have only purchased the movie on DVD, so this will basically force people to buy the Blu-ray version of the movie if they want to play the game, which of course will inflate Blu-ray's sales figures somewhat. And of course, this means more expensive games as well.

Smacks of desperation to me, to be honest. I just can't figure out if Sony are desperate about the future of Blu-ray or the future of the PS3.
