EngadgetHD looks at some reasons why people might download TV shows illegally.
Here in Australia, the main reason is due to the delay it takes the latest episodes to get down here. The TV stations have done better recently, but then there's the 8 minutes of ads they put in for every half hour or programming (and their casual attitude towards cancelling shows left and right, usually in the middle of a season). I have downloaded TV shows, sometimes because I missed an episode on TV, and sometimes simply to download a few episodes to see if I might like the show or not. And I think a lot of people do end up buying the DVD/Blu-ray version of the TV shows they download, as long as the shows are good ones.
