Default On demand content versus physical media - who will win?

There's a new article in the Examiner that looks like the challenges that physical media, such as DVD and Blu-ray, face from on-demand services such as Netflix.

I am of the opinion that on-demand video and audio is the future, and the industry I think largely sees this as well (which explains why almost every device these days can stream video and audio, either online or through your own home network). This is not to say that discs don't have a place, as many will still prefer to have something physical representing their movie library, while others will want to have a physical backup.
