The Stockholm District Court has declared that either The Pirate Bay be shut down until a final verdict is decided, or two of the founders of the website will have to pay fines of 500,000 Swedish kronor (US$71,500) each.
Fredrik Neij and Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, the two co-founders, have been ordered by the court to shut down The Pirate Bay. The only problem is that neither are involved in the running of the website, as they claim, and so have no control over the website.
The Pirate Bay was also sold shortly after the original court decision, which found the two men, and others, guilty of crimes against copyright law. They were sentenced to large fines and a year in prison. That case is now pending appeal, and the status of the sale of the website remains in doubt.
