A couple of PS3 news which I shall roll into one news post for the sake of simplicity.
------------- First of is the new PS3 firmware, 3.10, which features an improved friends list, Facebook integration (post your trophies there for the world to admire!), and of course, the usual bout of bugs and installation problems that could break your PS3. More: http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/18/p...-richer-troll/ Check the official PS3 board for issues that 3.10 may cause: http://boardsus.playstation.com/play....id=ps3updates ------------- Sony says that PS3s can be made to support stereoscopic 3D Blu-ray movies via a simple firmware upgrade. Of course, the other requirements such as special TVs, or ones that support 120 Hz, assuming Sony is talking about the latest 3D systems, and not those funky blue/red glasses. More: http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/multime...scopic_3D.html ------------- Sony's idea of Digital Copy is coming as well, and as with anything Sony does, it will require proprietary equipment. In this case, a PS3 and/or a PSP. But one of the advantages of a proprietary system is that it's easy to use, and entering a code is all that's needed to get a file that plays on the PS3, which can also be copied to the PSP. You won't get HD quality or anything like that, but it's a start. More: http://dvice.com/archives/2009/11/sonys-digital-c.php |

They've had PSP Digital Copy for a while now.
Annoyed me too, as I finally bought a PSP right after my code for 21 expired.

What's new is that the discs in question now do this without the need for a separate DVD-ROM disc, straight off the Blu-ray but requiring a PS3 to get it to work for those without Blu-ray drives in their PC/laptops. Real managed copy will be available in all Blu-ray discs after December 4th, and we'll then see how it works when the hardware/software arrive next year. Hopefully, this should allow one to make a 1:1 digital copy of a Blu-ray movie legally.

So the PS3 WILL be able to use Managed Copy with a firmware update?

Hard to say at the moment. I would expect so, since there shouldn't be any hardware obstacles (although those with 40 GB versions, like myself, might find it difficult to make 1:1 copies).

Mine's only 60GB - not that much bigger... and with part of that reserved for Linux, then it's probably about the same.
I thought Manged Copy only gave you the main movie? |

It's hard to say what MC will give us, even 1:1 of just the main movie is debatable. If it is just the main movie, than you'll still need around 20-30 GB for each 1:1 Blu-ray movie. Hopefully, external storage devices will be supported as devices you can copy to.
