Both Viacom and Google is expected to file for summary judgement in court on Friday. A group of copyright owners that also sued Google is expected to file for summary judgement as well. This marks a clear end to one phase of the legal proceedings, where document exchange and depositions have been completed.
The original complaint from Viacom claims Google's YouTube violated copyright on 160,000 clips found on the video sharing website. Google claims that safe harbour provisions prevent websites and service providers like YouTube from being responsible for user generated content.
