US Wii Price Drop, Plus Nintendo Boss Not Afraid Of Kinect

With the Wii 2 just around the corner, Nintendo has dropped the price of the original Wii to just under $150, in the United States.

But it's not the same "old" Wii bundle we've gotten used to, you know the one with Wii Sports. Instead, people who buy the black of white coloured Wii at the newly discounted price gets Mario Kart, plus a Wii wheel matching the colour of the console (plus the now standard Wii Remote Plus controller, of course). Not bad for $149.99.

So what happens to Wii Sports? Well, that's part of Nintendo's other announcement of a collection of Wii budget games, called the Nintendo Selects collection. Wii Sports is in there, plus The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Animal Crossing: City Folk and Mario Super Sluggers (free tip: Wii Sports and Twilight Princess are the must-haves in this collection). These games will be in the shops for just under twenty US dollars.

So with price cuts, discount games, is Nintendo worried about the competition, namely Microsoft's Kinect. One man that's not worried is Nintendo President Saturo Iwata, who in a recent onference call with investors said that the Kinect's userbase is still too small for it to be any real threat to the Wii, and has also stated that the lack of hit titles on Kinect means Nintendo is not worried.
