Default vdub 1.5 and AC3 audio conversion

By installing an ActiveMovie decompressor (the ac3acm.acm file) on one's system, the STANDARD versions of VirtualDub WILL accept .AC3 audiostreams for input and conversion to other audio formats...

("columbo999", not I, provided the original information. I merely suggested that he post it to a new thread so that all would be made aware of this pleasant piece of information.)

The "AC-3 ACM Decompressor" can be downloaded from:

Good post. Here's the official site for AC-3 ACM that also has the source code:

And how, exactly, does it do this?????

I've installed the codec, infact, already had it in, put it in again incase something was wrong with the old one.

Ran VirtualDub 165, loaded a video (without audio) in, went to the audio section, selected load WAV, change the WAV type to *.* and tried to load in an AC3 file, but it errors....

What have I missed ?

"And how, exactly, does it do this?????"

If you've successfully installed ActiveMovie decompressor (the ac3acm.acm file), VirtualDub will now accept files that ALREADY CONTAIN an .AC3 audiostream...

"so all in all, pretty much pointless then."

No, it's not pointless for those who want to input .AVIs containing .AC3 audiostreams and, as part of the processing they wish to do, convert the audio to a different format...
