The MPAA has struck again!!

When asked "what does region coding mean?", Homer used to say something like "I have no idea whatsoever what regional coding means. But it is essential that you buy a multi-regional player. Do it now. Don't worry, we'll still be waiting here when you get back."

Now they've removed the "multi-regional player" part, most likely due to MPAA interference.

But thanks to the magic of the Internet, and more specifically, to the web caching technology of Archive.org, you can still view the offending picture here :

Not anymore it seems - the Archive.org version has been got at by the MPAA (and/or Fox) too.

Now, back in Digital Digest Newsletter #29 we read the following promise:

(Just in case the MPAA "requests" action from Archive.org again, I've already saved a copy of this priceless web page to my hard-drive ready for distribution across the Net, that is if the MPAA doesn't hack into my computer and wipe my files first)

Any chance we're going to see you make good on that? Failing that, send me a copy of the artwork and I'll mirror it myself. (I had a link to the Archive.org-ed version that's looking pretty lame now.)

OK, never mind. After some poking about I've found that the original artwork is still there on the Fox website. The new artwork was given a .gif extension, while the old is still there as a .jpg.

Security through obscurity is wonderful, isn't it?

Thanks for the research in finding the link. I still have the picture on my hard-drive (special thanks to the firewall software for protection against MPAA probes), but it's a lot better if it links straight to the "scene of the crime".
