    Blu-ray movies outselling HD DVD by a wide margin

    Blu-ray movies outselling HD DVD by a wide margin; still nothing decided
    Blu-ray movie purchases have outpaced HD movies nearly two to one

    TG Daily reports...

    Though Nielsen did not give absolute numbers, it reported that around 72% of all HD disc movie sales were attributed to Blu-ray, leaving about 28% for HD DVD. That's despite the fact that HD DVD players had much better deals than Blu-ray Disc players. Toshiba's HD-A3 player went for around $170 on Black Friday at Sears. The price leader for Blu-ray was a $400 player at Best Buy that came with a $100 store gift card.

    Simply put, whose baby was it?

    Blu-ray is Sony's. When Sony gets into the business, Sony takes the market share. The entire media production and broadcast world looks for Sony's direction and follows suit because they can put stuff into the market even when it seems impossible.

    HDTV is also Sony's baby 10 years ago, the world wasn't ready but they waited and now the dream a reality.

    So you have it, what Sony wants Sony gets. LOL

      Except for:

      * Betamax
      * MiniDisc
      * ATRAC
      * UMD
      * SACD

      I might even include the PS3 in this, because I'm sure Sony were expecting to hold on to the 80% market share they once had with the PS2, but is now at best a three way tie with the Wii and 360, and that's assuming sales dramatically increase in 2008 (and the Wii/360 sales hold steady).

      It's worth noting that the Nielsen sales figures went back to a 58/42 split the week after the 72/28 figures, and that DVD sales were 10 times higher than both Blu-ray and HD DVD combined.
