m2ts to dvd vobs

I'm just piddling around and I made a m2ts file from a blu ray movie. I split the file into 4.5gb sections. I cant seem to find a way to convert these m2ts files into a structure that i can burn onto a dvd and play in a dvd player (not blu ray). I can use nero but it makes the ending compilation 1gb. Does anyone have any ideas? No I am not doing anything illegal. It'd be kinda expensive (and a pain) to have to use 5-6 dvd's for 1 blu ray movie.

do NOT split the large m2ts file and convert it to dvd with avstodvd or convertxtodvd

I already tried those. You can't split it into multiple segments with convertxtodvd. And avstodvd makes the resulting file too small (only 480p i believe)

if you want to create dvd compliant material then of course the resulution will have to be ntsc or pal standard which is 720x580/576

both tools create dvd compliant material so if you talk about higher res then whatever you are trying to achieve is NONstandard and does not make much sense playing on a regular dvd player

if you want hd ready or full hd resoultions you better get a blu-ray player and a corresponding tv

so there's no way to get 1080p from a dvd, even if you cut a blu ray movie into 10 pieces?

not for an ordinary dvd player - it cannot handle this resolution

feed the source material to (the corresponding HD tv, all else doesnt make sense at all) with a pc or blu-ray player

I've heard that some people have been able to read USB DVD players using set top boxes like WD HDTV for USB. If you got that to work, then you could use BD Rebuilder to create a BD5, then take out the .m2ts file and burn it to DVD5 as a Data DVD. Try to play it on the set top box. That way you could use DVD5 discs instead of having large HD and docking station or USB externals.

But as others have noted, if you burn a video disc, if it's a DVD then it has to be at the lower resolutions. Take a look on WD HDTV for USB or HDTV Live player forums and see if they're doing anything that appeals to you.

I don't know if the new WD boxes support PGS subs. But in BD Rebuilder you can "burn the subs in" if you need to using the avs filter option in Settings.
