    Joining avi.001 avi.002

    yo, i didn't know where to post this so I put is here

    I just got the movie Léon, but it looks like this :

    Leon.avi.001
    Leon.avi.002
    Leon.avi.003
    ....
    Leon.avi.030

    At first i thought it were rar files, but that's not the case. So I tried to open the first file with virtualdub an that works. The second part however i cannot open with virtualdub or anything else. Does somebody know with what program this movie has been split or with what program I could join the parts? Regular avi-joining tools do not seem to work because the files 002 to 030 are not avi files by themselves.

    Can anybody help me? I would be gratefull.

    Thx

    Reboman.

    Try a program such as HJSLPIT (used for both splitting and re-merging), available at:

              I have the same problem, but my files are more like:

              something.avi.000
              something.avi.001
              something.avi.002
              ...

              They start in 0, but hjsplit starts with:

              something.avi.001

              Any solution?

              Thanks

                Take a look and see if the number of kilobytes in the .000 file are the same as the .001 file. All the joiners I'm aware of ( HJSplit, MasterSplitter, DVDSplitter) begin with the .001 file....but usually when a series of video files are posted there's a file or two which precedes the main body which are informational for posting...and don't have many kilobytes. I suspect that's what your .000 file is...and it can be left out of the join.

                  Thanks for the reply.
                  The .000 file as the same length than the others....

                    Good news...
                    I've changed all the extensions lyke this:

                    something.avi.000 -> something.avi.001
                    something.avi.001 -> something.avi.002
                    something.avi.002 -> something.avi.003
                    ...

                    And it worked fine.
                    I hope this helps someone else.

                    Thanks

                      yeah, but like dracula, that's a pain in the neck. obviously the files were posted with an intended joining program in mind...and if any kind soul with knowledge of a joiner which begins with a .000 file were to post its name it would save you some time...

                        yeah, but they where only 4 files...
                        If it happens again, but with many files, i'll write some java code to change the extensions....

                          xyz.avi.000

                            Rename to xyz001.avi, xyz002.avi, etc.

                            You can use VirtualDub to append the AVI segments if they are the same frame size and compression.

                              Do you want to rename the files in a batch? Select all the files.Right-click on the first file(xyz.avi.000) and select RENAME. Then rename it to xyz.avi.(001).Now all your files would have been rnamed sequentially. These files were probably split with HJSplit.Use HJSplit to re-unite them to a single file.
