    Piecing together a new Comp...

The first Part I'm buying is a motherboard. I need to know what is the best quality at a fair rate. Thx in advance.

if it were me, i'd think about all the other parts first, then pick a motherboard that's able to acommodate all that hardware, and pick from the appropriate price range

i've always liked asus, offering good features at decent prices. i've built around 8 PC's on asus, all had a nice long life...

I have a friend going to Singapore in a month and he said that hardware is cheaper over there, should I rely on that info?
I'm really sick of my system but I'm building around it right now.

dunno if you get the warranty if its bought in singapore...

i'm quite happy with my system (rock stable, at $1500 AU the lot, every part bought separately), it can play every game i have tried (half-life 2, doom 3, far cry, rome total war), at 1280x1024 4x anti-aliasing 4x anisotropic filtering, at full fps. that's mostly because of the graphics card though. i can happily recommend all the parts in my sig (though the hdtv card sucks, with some driver hacking it works with the best software, and thus is better than most cards on the australian market )

but, depending on your budget, you could go much much better and future-proof

Do you want to upgrade/tweak your current system?

Or do you just want to build a new system?

I can help either way (like Im sure many of us can)....

I would recommend for a New system a ABIT motherboard but now to the processor do you want a 64bit CPU or do you want more like I.E. 64BIT dual core? Or do you want to build a cheaper better performing system based on the older (not by much) but very capable AMD (recommended) CPU's? I.E. AMD Athlon XP family and others (I love AMD)...?

Future proofing is relative in any case the advent of 64bit CPU's means that our 32bit enviroment is supported by the next generation CPU's and mobos....... So I guess for the next 5 to 10 (minimum) years you can survive on a PC built around a Athlon XP....

I bet before then you will be able to afford a newer and better machine....

With the right knowlege and educated approach you can even make your current pc more efficient (not faster)...

              So what's it gonna be?
