Converting WMA to MP3

I am trying to convert some of my WMA files to MP3 and I can't find a program that will allow me to do so.

Can anyone help?

assuming the wma files are unprotected (no DRM), itunes can do it i believe, as well as winamp with wma input plugin

I have downloaded Winamp and I hate to be a pain in the ass, but can you semi-guide me from here.

i don't actually use winamp for encoding (and i NEVER EVER use wma), but i'd imagine you'd get these two plugins:

lame mp3 for output: http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=143606

itunes is probably more 'user-friendly' for this job though...

I had to do the same job over the weekend for my son. I got advanced wma workshop which is very good. There's a free 15 day fully working trial.

I used to do this on occasion, but (on the spot with an hour to go before his birthday party), couldn't remember how - I think there is a plugin for Nero that works, so if you have Nero ultra investigate. Otherwise, I am sure there are 2 or 3 very cheap plugins to Window$ Media Player - just open it and look for plugins and go to their plugin page. Cyberlink does one for under $10.

EDIT: Here's a link. Hmmm, by the looks of it, it might just be for ripping CD-A. Check it out before you buy.

advanced wma workshop

Did about 20 gigs worth, took awhile on a fast computer,
worked fine, told my friends never again!

This is the easiest way and works whether or not it is protected.

Just burn them to a CD and then rip as MP3 using Windows Media Player or MusicMatch or something.

works 100% of the time.

Takes forever, compared to AWMAW though drf. Even the Nero Wave Editor needs to analyse the song which takes a while - during the analysis time, AWMAW can convert 2 songs.

I'm not gunna use it much, but it certainly did the job. Converts to OGG Vorbis or WAV too. May be a fraction expensive for what it does though.

Right. Whereas Windows Media Player is free - that is all you need, plus a CD-R(W) disc.

Don't you need the mp3 plugin for WMP anyway to rip to MP3? Pretty sure you do.

Anyway, there's a few ways to do it, that's for sure.

Audio and subbie formats will be the death of me. No-one can standardise on anything in this biz.

MP3 is the standard used by the vast majority of the known
universe, here Microsoft is odd man out!

Try muxing an MP3 into a DVD and find out how much of the universe complains that they hear nothing!
