I am having a problem. I used to have a Plextor Px-716A, then the tray broke and I bought the same one. Ever since I had this new one my read speed and burn speed have been slower. I used to burn at 4x now it only burns at 1.6x and reads at about 2.5X. My other dvd drive also reads slower (not the burner). I have done everything I can think of. Updated my firware, Checked my Primary and Secondary IDE channels making sure they were on DMA if available and Ultra DMA Mode, tried adjusting my read/burn speeds with dvdd. I don't think it's just a problem with the burner because like I said before my problem is also affecting my Dvd drive ,when I read with that as well. Any help would be fantastic.

Doesn't Plextor have riplock on it? Find a firmware without riplock - see link in my signature (or did your firmware update include a riplock free firmware?) If this is the case, check your IDe cables.

Where else could I find an upgrade for this burner without riplock?? Because I really don't think there is a problem with my IDE cables.Comment

Get the 1.09 here and see if that helps.

Your burner does not like being slaved to the dvd reader. Disconnect the reader and attach the burner to the end of the cable and change jumper to master.
Why?, well the new plex probably has a newer firmware,
just guessing.
I always had my plex 708 and 712 master by themselves.Last edited by Chewy; 3 Nov 2005, 01:36 PM.Comment

It's slightly more than that. You need to take your PC apart and transfer the burner to where the reader is on the IDE cable and set it to MA (master) on the back of the burner.

Alright, thanks for your help guys. I made the burner the master and now the reader is slave to the burner and is the one in pio mode. The only reason I don't want to use my burner to read and burn is because that is how 2 of my last 3 burners have broken. But I am happy because at least I can burn at 4x again. Thanks AgainComment
