i can say from experience that there is very little difference in speed between 512mb dual channel & 1GB dual channel with dvdshrink (other apps, such as photoshop increase dramatically in performance). even less difference between 2GB and 1GB. Adding more ram, however, will definitely increase multitasking performance. your CPU is the bottleneck here.
try removing the 256mb sticks
"What were the things in Gremlins called?"- Karl Pilkington
i pulled the 256 sticks and when i turned the computer on a screen saying a change in memory occured F1 to continued F2 to run setup utility
i hit F2 to see what i had, under memory it said
Installed System Memory 1024Mb DDR SDRAM
System Memory Speed 400mHz
Channel mode DUAL
AGP Aperature 128MB
(for my DVDShrink speed test I am using CASINO 10th anniversary edition, files already on HD, encoding full disc 61.8% ,AEC maximum sharpness, analysis already done)
I left this alone and started computer and ran shrink
I noticed no increased speed over before (actually it seemed a bit slower)
encoding speed 1.8 MB/sec
I then turned off computer reinstalled the 256 MB in DIMM1 (channels A and B)
hit F2 and here is what the BIOS said i had
Installed System Memory 1536Mb DDR SDRAM
System Memory Speed 400mHz
Channel mode DUAL
AGP Aperature 128MB
this says dual....
anyhow i turned computer on and ran encoding and my speed is at
2.2MB/ sec
anyone else have any input or suggestions for a movie i cna compare my speeds to???

looks ok since the spd tables match
what the mobo chipset running them at?
everst report looks like this
CPU Properties:
CPU Type AMD Athlon 64
CPU Alias Venice S939
CPU Stepping DH-E3
CPUID CPU Name AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+
CPUID Revision 00020FF0h
CPU Speed:
CPU Clock 2474.55 MHz
CPU Multiplier 9.0x
CPU FSB 274.95 MHz (original: 200 MHz, overclock: 37%)
Memory Bus 247.45 MHz
when i try to open that window under (overclock) a window saying nVIDIA OpenGL driver
Driver component sizes mis-match. OK to keep going. Cancel to exit
can't get past error message
looking into it now.......
