dont know what the SE is in this new version, but here are some details:

      That board is very nice.

I found one for £85. It seems the more expensive versions just has more USB etc.

pci-e's bandwidth is so damn high, no device can acually fully utilize it yet (hell we haven't even uitilized AGP8X yet!). it is not yet needed, though as uncas said, no decent motherboard nowadays has an agp slot

it provides no added performance, you can base any increase on chance

8x AGP cards have been around for ages.

actually I am quite pleased and wish I had bought another 2 or 3,
when they were selling for 48$ refurb, jumped up to 85$ now

                    to each his own

the only bad thing i can say is that it doesn't have the agp slot. the high-end cards don't come in agp anymore, which is why i myself went for the A8V-E SE. they're quite similar

if you do ever overclock watch out for the pci lock on the via southbridge,
I had to reload XP on the Promise chipset.
Having support for 4 sata drives is kinda useless to me.

I'd settle for this vid card but it's too expensive

nice, decent performance, but if you wish to upgrade your pc (mobo) you'll have to get another one...

if my graphics card died, i'd immediately grab a 7800GTX (i'm still skeptical of ATI's avivo and its hardware encoding & also H264 acceleration )

                          you're the gamer(and evidently UNcasMS), not I

to balance a system with those vid cards I would have to get
                          a 4200 dual core+ OC, 500 cas 2.5(2 gigs) ram, stripped raptors,
and a damn good power supply

                          balance in the force

lol i learnt my lesson: don't buy a cheap PSU in exchange for a hard disk that's slightly bigger. its what killed my "old" PC during a freak lightning storm. i've purchased a much better one (antec) & got me a surge protector since then

btw, if anybody has an ATI card, catalyst 5.13 is due this week, and has been dubbed a 'video driver', supposedly improving video-related aspects of certain current-gen cards, & enabling avivo on next-gen

Believe it or not, I was trying to build a bang for the buck
computer, and foray into the amd64 land, the european 9600XT
at 75$ fit the bill, I doubt it affects my shrink times.
Bottom line, the beast eats movies economically, and the most embarassing
thing is it does it with a 30$ power supply(good sale).

a graphics card (aside ofcourse from the new ati's) will not affect encoding times of any app. a system with a geforce 5200 will perform just as good as an identical system with a 7800GTX, with preview on or off. you may see some decrease if using cheap onboard video with the preview on though

my HTPC is what i would call a budget system, mostly built from spare parts left over from previous upgrades:

                                athlon64 3200+
                                Asus A8V-E Deluxe
Geforce 6600GT (got this for its spatial HD deinterlacing)
                                512mb DDR400
and alas, a cheap PSU, but the most quiet i could find at that price

lol my PC needs a nickname too
