Do Burners Burn out?

I'm using my sony vaio burner for the last year and a half and it has worked for that time.

I came back from holidays and tried buring some DVDs (iso files) and the burn process halts after a few minutes. I've used Nero and Decrypter and the same thing happens.

The following is the error log - I dont understand what's happening - can someone help - is my burner burnt out???

Something's sure eating up a lot of ram, I would fix this first!

The burner may be dieing.

even if the burner is dying would the cd/dvd rom still work???

any threads on how to clean up your ram - cant figured out which programs to get rid of.

the ram eaters may not all be installed programs, there are many nasty
programs that install themselves
go to add/remove programs and uninstall everything you don't need or use

But how come it all of a sudden didnt work> Like from one day to the next?

I cant even frag and drop files on the to disc...is this normal...

hmmm...

when i went to load my nemo disc - it didnt read it but it read my warcraft cd....

what does that mean?

You might just need a laser clean. Go buy a cleaning kit - they're pretty cheap.

so its a different lens...because if it cant read dvd but can read cd, that is what I would expect - and hopefully (BIG HOPEFULLY) when I clean the lense, it will restore my beloved DVD (love of my life)

Optical Readers

Im confused - how come it can read a CD but not a DVD.

Is there a single lense? Or is there a specific lense for the DVD that burnt out. Will cleaning it make a big difference??? Or did the lense burn out and I'm off to buy a new DVD-R/CD-R recorder.
