    64-bit Dvd Shrink

Hi, I was wandering if anybody knows if there will be a 64-bit version of DVD Shrink anytime in the future?

yep! first I was going with reencode!

installed it, don't like the interface, waiting for something to use it on

              me neither

one of the reasons i want to go 64-bit is good games that are optimized for it (i believe the half-life 2 engine was re-worked for x64 about a week or two ago), as well as the 'snappy' feeling during regular windows usage. but won't be doing so until i upgrade capture card.

              till vista, then

for xvid, since its not multithreaded, it depends on avisynth usage. avisynth does my cropping & resizing (and de-interlacing if needed), on one core, while the codec/vdub takes the other. small increase in speed, probably ~10%-20%

x264, on the other hand, gets a very nice boost (its definitely needed), varying between ~45%-70%. it doesn't fully utilize both cores, but i'd imagine it will before long

almost died when i saw speed of 40fps on a max (practical) quality encode, 1st pass. didn't die when i saw the second pass

                    what up with this then?

                    I am puzzled!

another migraine chewy needs to do a bench of xvid

I have heard that some software will just ignore the second core completely and therefore run an aufull lot slower. However if DVD Shrink does see and use the second core then that would speed things up quite a bit.

I personaly use an AMD Athlon 64 4000+, with the hardest of DVD's my back ups take about 1 hour, from start to finish. With the easy ones it is just down to how fast my DVD drive can read and write.

programs that are not multithreaded will only use one core (and thus ignore the second), but it will not go any slower than the single-core equivalent.

as for dvdshrink, see here http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=59010

Yes, it is true that games will go a lot better on x64 platforms. But the main problem is finding 64-bit software for the 64-bit computer.
Far Cry is a good 32-bit & 64-bit(patched from AMD) game.
64-bit software will come out, i should think that we will see them come out over the next few years along with programs designed to work with Dual Cores.
