ok then, today i have tested the stability of the overclocked processor, i had to increase the voltage due to the fact that when you was running in windows, just browsing the internet it would just reboot itself, i raised it by 0.025 to start with but it still did it (allthough not as often), so i raised it by another 0.025 (making the total voltage 1.600), now it has stopped rebooting itself and has run FAR CRY (64-bit patch) for over and hour with no problems at all. It has encryted a few things on shrink aswell.
i am quite happy with the 2.8 Ghz clock speed, it will go to 2.85, but i think i would have to raise the voltage a bit more for that. As soon a i put it to 2.9 Ghz it won't even let me into the bios so i have to do a full clear of the CMOS, remove the battery and so on.
But then i am using normal Crucial DDR 400 so i can't complain.
Idle is 38 C and at 100% usage it is 53 C, should i invest in a new cooling fan for the CPU or are these temps ok?

been there done that, more grey hairs!

now you are getting down to the brass tacks, i used a TT silent boost
with my most careful spread of geil cpu paste(cu based)
at 290 fsb, I barely hit 42C and that was at full multiplier
Your cpu will put out more heat than mine!

Stock cooling was designed for stock clocking.

i have heared that the hotter the CPU gets the worse the efficiency is so for how much a CPU cooler actualy costs it definately would not hurt it.

I spent 30$ to protect a 150$ cpu that I wanted to overclock
to $500-600, if I can keep it running as cool as a stock cpu then
I figure it's gonna last as long. Now come summer, there will be a fan
blowing on it and fsb may get lowered.
Too hot does mess them up, glitches etc. but the real worry is burning them up.

don't modern CPU's have some sort of protection against burning them up. I thought they had a temp monitor inside them that will just cut out the computer if it gets to it's factory set threshhold. I might be wrong about this though

You can set some bios's to alarm, but by default they don't until you
start to reach the designed limit of the cpu, I have seen a lot burn up before that point.

ah yes, so it's there but it is set to cut out at a high temp so therefore should not be relied upon

If I had your cpu I would take good care of it, the opteron dual core 939
I priced last month at 270$ is backordered and 340$ this week.

I don't know what country you live in but this is a UK website that sells computer components, at some good prices. This is where is get most of my components. Have a look see what you think,

Yes, that's a good cooler, it has and attachment that fits into a 3.5 inch bay so you can control the fan speed. That's quite a good feature.

I was thinking about this one:

it looks like it will do the job well, but then i like the the ability to control the fan speed yourself rather than let the computer determine the speed.

I did see this one on eBay, it looks like a small jet engine
                          (and it is loud 20dB~44.5dB)

                            26.5-72.9 cfm

you don't really want that jet engine, trust me

i agree the turbojet engine cooler is too much, too big in my opinion, the one that you picked out has a good air flow rate. it does look the best, especialy because you have the fan contol knob in the spare 3.5 inch bay.
i think i will go with that one

I use the one that fits in the back on my other amd overclock.
It's quite loud when turned up but seems to cool very well when needed.
