Surround Sound PC Speakers

Alright, now my speakers are dying on me... have to kick the subwoofer to get both speakers to go louder. So, I was thinking of getting more. Now, none of my TVs have surround sound so I thought it could be pretty cool to get surround PC speakers. First question: Would I need to buy a sound card? I have an integrated Intel card that works fine as it is with 2.1 speakers. Two: can anyone find me some that are under 75 from Micro Center that will work well, and sound good?

If there are none, than I will wait. Just curious.

Is there a cheaper sound card BTW? Don't want the total price of the sound stuff to exceed about $80-100.

Yes, I do. I emulated surround yesterday... very impressive. Of course running a cord across the room is impractiacal, and my FM transmitter works great but is not that great quality.

My dad has surround speakers... seem to be better then emulated surround.

My stereo only has 2 speakers. That would make... 4.1 total?

invest in stereo and feed from computer, get a 100$ 100watt amplified pass thru base module and start playing games, and extra ear plugs for the rest of the family.

I mean... don't they make stereo PC speakers? My dad's has two sets of speakers, front and back, and a subwoofer. There are two stereo plugs, green and black. That came with the computer though.

I would probably need a sound card as I only got one speaker output - using a splitter does not produce "true" surround.

I have one. But kinda an annoyance of having to hook it up each time I watch a movie. Also, wouldn't I need a sound card? I don't have surround enabled - all my onboard card can handle is 2 speakers. Using 4 would be pointless without having surround installed.

Also... then I would have 2 volume controls to use... the stereo and the PC speakers. Oh well.

I used my FM transmitter last night with my portable DVD player... sounded great! I got used to it by the end of the movie LOL.

I would wait to get the card and do some heavy research on google and ebay to find you some cheap surround sound speakers you may get lucky. I know logitech makes 5.1 pc speakers

What would be even cooler is wireless surround speakers to match my wireless keyboard and mouse

Most onboard audio chips released within the past year have software selection of speaker outputs for 2.0, 2.1, 3.0, 3.1, 4.0, and 4.1. Even if you only have 3 1/8" inputs/outputs make sure that you can't assign them in windows. I would double check in the audio program for your PC to see if these settings are available before investing in a new sound card. Save your $$ for a nice set of speakers. Even emulated surround on the best speakers will sound better than any surround system you can get for less than $100. For killer sound and BEST quality i'd go for some Klipsch promedia 2.1. MSRP $149.99

Find a set of Klipsch on eBay, buy em with Paypal and get the buyers protection thru PayPal

You can get great deals on the 2.1's avoid the newer Promedia ultra 2.0's - Garbage and the GMX series too

Logitech is next ones to look at.

I have both the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 and the Logitech Z-5500 (which I bought later)
and I use the Kilpschs as the sound is tremendous (rivals my home stereo, which Is a paradigm / pioneer elite system)
the klipsch's control pod sucks compared to the logitechs but cant beat the sound
result gave the logi's to my wife
