now when I click on the wmp folder to delete it, it says another person or program is using wmp, cannot delete. I logged everyone else off, no avail.

Close everything but System Idle Process and Explorer and try again.

all programs are closed, nothing shows in applications list when I do cntl/alt/delete

Click on Processes - you will be amazed what's running.

Ok, novice here. It is ok to cancel all processes except for the 2 you mentioned? They will come back when I reboot?

first of all, want to thank you for all your help! Check this out. I got chicken with the error messages of causing loss of stability or problems if I cancel processes. I trust you, but was sweating bullets over here, lmao. So I chickened out, went back to WMP10, and now the cotton picking thing works right on .asx files. The fast forward works! Computers can be frustrating even when they do what you want, because I wanted us to be the ones that made it work right, lol. Turns out unchecking WMP in add/remove, and checking it back fixed whatever the issue was. Go figure

think I'll keep your executable file, and do it another time. You think cancelling all those processes will do the trick?

No it won't just tried it. MS Update gave me WMP10, I accidentaly ended something that made my PC shut down. I will find another way and let you know.

I fixed it with System Restore, but that only works if you had WMP9 before.

Perhaps this would work? It's called XP Lite, should let you use Add/Remove Windows Components do delete WMP then install mine.

If you don't wanna risk your system I will install WMP10 and then try to remove it by one of these ways.

This is the trouble:

We've hunted for solutions and listed our findings below. Microsoft claims that it is not possible to uninstall Media Player 10 because it's a feature of the operating system. Even though you can not remove it entirely, you can revert back to a previous version.
