Black Frame Detection for Splitting Video

I have a lot of avi clips i need to split up in to separate files,
each video clip is separated with a 5 sec or more black screen between them.
Each avi file has 28 clips on it about 1hr 40 mins long.
It is a pain to split them manually.
i just need somthing to auto sense the black gaps and cut & save them as individual files without re-encoding them.

Any ideas would be much appreciated,

    Thanks.

haven't used it myself, but try http://devices.natetrue.com/cbreak

the method works quite well though--'videoredo''s implementation does the job superbly for mpeg1/2

      Re videoredo cbreak

cbreak came the closest to what i need, videoredo i could not get it to save into separate files just on big file, cbreak has the -k option for "Skit Mode" it saves them as saparate files.

      Thanks.
