Program to verify transfered files

I am looking for a program to verify transfered files after I transfer them from my computer to an external HD or data dvd. I have searched the web and found dozens of programs which claim to do this, does anbody have a recommendation or favorite program, preferably free (or low cost)? Thanks for any suggestions.

imho the ideal way to check files is an crc/md5 check

use MOOSFV it's freeware

i use winrar. set compression mode to 'store'. it'll create an archive and test it immediately afterwards. the transfer is just as fast as a regular copy+paste. probably faster than copy+paste if you're working with say 4000+ files
