Nero error: Could not perform end of Disc-at-once

I have been using Nero 7 to burn DVD+R's since I bought my laptop (HP Pavilion zx5000). The burner is a Toshiba SD-R6252. A long time ago I also upgraded the firmware to the 1A14 version which worked fine with 8x speed DVD+R media. A few days ago out of the blue the drive stopped burning DVDs and now gives the following message. It still however burns CD-Rs...

The media I used to burn were Fujifilm "up to 8x" DVD+R which burned fine. Then when that stack of DVDs run out I bought the same exact product but didn't burn (Could not perform end of Disc-at-once). I upgraded the firmware to 1A99 but no luck. I changed DVD media and also used "up to 4x" speed media but no luck. I cleaned the lens with a special disc but again no change. I used different burning tools and also uninstalled and reinstalled Nero but no smile. I have also checked other forums and similar postings online but did not help my case. Does anyone know what is going on? I am filling up my hard drive fast and need to unload stuff to DVDs ASAP...

    Thank you,

    2 good possibilities
    1. burner is dying(they keep burning cd's)
    2. Fuji changed manufacturers on you(your burner is trying to finish the disk)

you may have been getting the made in japan before disks(best there is)Yuden T02

last ones are probably ritek from tawain, they used to be better, and still are OK when I burn in a newer burner

where did you get that firmware?

        Chewy,

You are absolutely right about the DVDs I am burning (trying to). The new ones I bought are Made in Taiwan. The old ones in Japan... Perhaps that's the reason. I will try to find the old ones to buy again, although I don't know how to tell without destroying the outer packaging.

I am also upgading to the latest Nero although I doubt it will solve my problems.

The 1A99 firmware I got at a website that I found through serching in Google. I don't even remember the link. It had the 11, 13, 14 and 99 versions which people in other forums say it's crap. Maybe I'll downgrade to the 1A14 verison again.

        I'll keep you posted.

        Thanks

on every spindle I now buy, in a store I squint(old eyes) till I find the made in Japan, it's on the package outside, last time I dug to the back of an end cap to find them. Sony still uses some of the Yuden T02's. 8x dvd+r

          downgrade to the 1A14 verison

            Gary D,

I upgraded Nero 7 to the latest release and although there are no error messages now (it actually says that the burn was successful) the disc is not readable after the burn in any drive i tried it in including a standalone DVD player.

The smile lasted for a few minutes only.

One other thing to remember when getting a "cannot perform end of disc at once" error is that many times the disc can be closed and finalized by using DvdDecrypter. If memory serves me, just insert the disc and go to options and choose close disc.
