Set Windows XP defaults

I need some help with the way that my PC handles a dvd when i put it in the drive.
Every time i put in a dvd, intervideo windvd opens the dvd for veiwing,

The thing is, I dont want anything to happpen.I just want to drop the dvd in to the drive and then open the software of choice myself

what can I do ???

You can disable autorun.

Go on start button and select "Run". Then type gpedit.msc

From this window search configuration\administrative templates\system\turn off autoplay, and set it as "enabled".

Important: do it both in "local computer policy" and in "user configuration", or it will not works correctly

Right-click on the drive in My Computer and then click AutoPlay at the top. And check "prompt me each time to choose an action"

Sorry, misread.

Insert a disc in the drive, select No Action and check the box to do this action for this type of disc.

geno88: when I followed your directions Windows could not find the "gpedit.msc" is it possible that you have mis typed command ??
or is somthing wrong with my OS

the problem was solved using the point and click method DRFsupercenter mentioned. btw DRF you forgot to metion to go to properties

I am a techno neophtye so I need this spelled out for me real sloooooow
