best way to move your files to a new disk

well i bought a new disk...and id like to transfer files to the new disk without any need to install windows again...is this possible?
i would like to know
how to set up partitions on a new disk before file transfer?
how to move files so i can continue using windows,i dont have time right now to install them and all additional software again?

Do you have room in your pc to add a second disc?
I have 2. I just transphered what I need from one to the other and leave the one with windows as the local disc C.

I personally prefer 2 HD's that way if windows crashes all important info is saved on the other drive.

Any software like ghost or true image can do this.

If hardware is the same, you can create an image of your system and restore it on the new disc.

The old disc, if it's working, can still be used to store data

i like risking,never thought bout saving my data to another drive,one day im gonna regret it i know...

i did it using hd clone,first i ran chkdsk and defragmented my old drive...and ran hd clone...
i already sold my old pathetic 40gb ibm drive...new is wd2000

hi,another question...i have now three partitions...and i would like to get rid of the third one by "giving" its space to the other two...how i can do that,i have partition magic 8,but there is anothe extended partition not shown in windows,as i dont really understand all these terms,can someone help...

I would put all of F into D, F should have been a logical drive anyway
Keep data out of C, keep the 10 gigs free, that's enough room for a temp
full rip of a movie and a few gigs left over for swap file.
This is why I always keep a spare drive or preferabley 2 hard drices in a computer.

Man, you must have a lot of room inside your case.
I made an external 250GB for all back ups and straight storage. No partitioning. I had to format it fat32 due to an older 98se and a new xp.

- move/remove/delete all data from this partition
- rightclick on this partition in pm8 and delete the partition
- rightlick the partition BEFORE drive F (should be D) and choose resize
- extend the pink area over all the grey area OR move the pink area to the right and leave some space (grey) to the left in order to extend the next partition (drive C) to the left into this direction

this way F will be merged with the partition before it OR f will be merged and C will also be extended
