Disk controller error - Bad cable?

I have noticed in system event viewer that I am getting a recurring error message

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\D. (Event #11)

When I click on the link, it directs me to MSoft.com & informs me that a cable is likely failing. I have replaced both cables, & am still getting the same message.

As you can see, it is a fairly up - to - date machine... I was wondering if the "controller error" could actually be something like a cold solder joint on the mboard where the cable connection is - or something failing in that circuit.

I put this pc together around 03/05, & I it has had this same error message the entire time.

I can't say that I really experience any system problems, other than a "crash" or system hang here or there; but then again, isn't that normal for a Windows based machine?!?

I had them set to different configs a couple of different times; no change in the error message.

The older drive I could probably remove, but I keep it in for convenience, as I have a lot of backups on there that is easily accessable w/out having to get out a backup cd & load it...

Yep, the jumpers are correct. I know what u mean; there are about 60 different configurations for the jumpers on that drive; the IBM drive is the same way!

80 conductor cable is what I am using. I guess I could disconnect all but the one master & see what that would do.

BTW, do u know of a good overall benchmark tool for the pc? I have used a couple from

but I am always open to other options! I like to use EVEREST Free Edition 2.20 for sys. info. It will do some ram tests, system diagnostics and benchmarking too.

the benchmark I have found the best is my own custom one using shrink,
get a standard 70% compression hard drive to hard drive no da no aec.
always use the same movie
