I think the cases available nowadays are are a lot more aesthetically pleasing than the pre-built branded PCs.
But you sometimes can't beat the price of a bundled PC systems. Some of these pre-builts can be bought for $600-700 and comes with an extensive software package (even after weeded out those that you don't really want), a monitor (sometimes an LCD), 1-2 Gig memory, and a powerful CPU. Those manufacturers get great discounts from all these manufacturers.

You can always upgrade those pre-built systems with more memory, a better graphics card, or a bigger LCD monitor.

Beware any prebuilt without a graphics card slot for upgrades, pci does not count. Also look at back of computer for the size of power supply, those mini
ones are horrible and very expensive to replace. If the tower is too small
you can't hardly add memory or anything else.

If you are in the US, I would suggest using www.tigerdirect.com. They have realy good customer support and have a decent selection of hardware. Don't go by what you se in their catalog and order by phone, they have unadvertized sales. I have built 4 p.c.'s using them as a source, and you could make it "pretty" too, though I prefer industrial looing stuff myself.
