Need Chewy to look under my Hood !

OK Chewy, LUK replied and said the following CLICK HERE

Here is my Everrest report and mobo review/specs, CLICK HERE

I have since done a MemTest, did about 4 passes, no ERRORS. The only odd thing I noticed was it stated that the FSB was 200mhz. The P4 I have on there suppose to be 800 and the mobo states that it supports 800mhz. Is that just a glitch in MemTest or do I need to tweek in the BIOS ? BTW: I have never OC'd and I recently updated the BIOS to 1008 (1009 was Beta so I didn't load).

Per LUK's recommendation, I'm going to order some new cables for the DVD drives, there are currently in tandem on one cable. Since the mobo had two channels UltraDMA, guess the best bet is to run separate cables ?

Ya know I hate to say this but could all this stem from running the 4 sata's. The issues did seem to start around the time I add the 2 additional sata's to the existing 2 where/when I had on issues. I needed more drive space for BU (backup) purposes. You mentioned a while back that you had issues with running four SATA's on one board, but don't remember the exact particulars.

Could this be anyway related to SW ? The reason for asking is I also loaded Ner0 7 to the mix as well around the same time I installed the two additional SATA's. I was looking for a way to Author my Mini-DVD from my Sony DCR-DVD403. The video files copy to the HD, and play with PowerDVD in 1:85 but have not yet discover how to keep the 1:85 during Authoring when trying to combine 2-3 Mini's into one 4.7 (for a later date).

Before I ran into Burn failure issue the box rocked, I could burn/run two sessions of Nero .... or run two sessions of CloneDVD2 to burn with Clone .... came in handy ... didn't have to sit at the box as much .... it obviously took longer (about 2x) but it freed me up to go watch a movie, everything came out fine. I try to do that now ...... I might as well just throw those two TY's in the garbage...

I'm seriously considering upgrading one of my old boxes (p3/500mhz) to a AMD 64 Athlon. The prices on newegg are getting very tempting. Since the DC's have been hitting the SC units have been dropping quite a bit. Can get a CPU and mobo for under $200, not bad CLICK HERE. I could make it the burner box and leave my current box/confguration as my file server, it has a kick-ass case, read review here CLICK HERE, if I ever buy another CASE it will be a X-SuperAlien, see newegg ad CLICK HERE.

I see where pls talk (newegg reviews) about Encoding and Burning at the same time an play a game with the AMD 64 chip.

    OK dat's enough for now ..... need some suggestions ? ? ?

sorry I missed this last night,

post an overclock, but just cut and paste top part without all the 0's

post a sensor same thing but after the computer is warmed up and seeing a little heavy use

have you run thru both these threads and optimized your computer?

go into bios and turn off anything you are not using(serial ports, game ports, etc)

we can't fix the lame L1 issue with the P4, intel is fixing to do that with their new core cpu, but we can try to speed things back up

NP about last night, no hurry it's stable as long as I don't over work like I usta.....LOL !

As for the post overclock, you might have to walk me though exactly what you want. I have a tool called CPU-Z that I can post an image of the CPU clocking info, is that sufficent ?

Post sensor, OK I'm clueless on that one ?

As for the two threads, yes I've done most of that a good while ago, especially 60313. I do need to do a defrag, it's been quite a while since I've done that.

Do you have specs listed anywhere of your favorite puter setup ? Are you more favorable to Intel or AMD ?

THX in Advance for the Help !

Well as we approach july 23 all I can say is wait, when the dust settles from the new intel core release, we'll know more and you can count on one thing,
the competetion will make the new consumer the winner.

in everest under computer there's an overclock and sensor subscreen
        quick report

DVDS is always maxing out the CPU ...... LOL

I could use ReCode, which to me seems to hit it even harder. I noticed when using recode in the past (don't use that much because of this reason) that it taxes the CPU pretty hard. I even notice it by the jerkyness of other apps in the background, ie MS Access and IE .... I'll be stuffing my DVD Db and notice how it does respond as well as when using say CloneDVD2.

with low priority mode unchecked and no other apps loaded and a good compression, shrink should hit 99% cpu, it's designed to get the job done.

with no compression shrink is just a ripper and 5-10% cpu use is the norm.

with a few apps running it seems to throttle back to 60-70 %.

I'm actually going back to DVDS over Clone now that I've gotten pretty good at PgcEdit for removing unwanted stuff and blanking. The version of Clone I have doesn't allow you to adjust compression (movie versus extras), not ever sure if the new version does ..... and I read where others (can't remember who exactly, but the color blu come to mind) say that DVDS has a better transcoder than Clone and other shrinkers out there ..... I like DVDS, used it for so long before someone got me hooked on Clone .... if no Shrinking needed, I use PgcEdit/mkisofs to make iso (retaining 32K gaps) and burn with Imgburn.

if it's that hot after reseating the heatsinkfan, wonder how hot it was before?

that's an average temp for that cpu(loaded), mobo and hard drives are good.
voltages look good, go into bios and check the 12 volt rail, if it ever gets more than a 1/2 volt low, you might be pushing the power supply too hard.

                            looking good

Chewy can you recommend some good cables, think what I got when I built this box was Generic Rounds (3 conn type) at newegg. Guess I will go with singles conn to the mobo from each drive as you mentioned in other posts.
