Widescreen monitor for pc - good choice?

I have been considering getting a widescreen monitor recently, since the prices have come down so much on them;

Does anyone use one? Would it be a good choice for video editing, as well as "normal" everyday computing, i.e., surfing, gaming, etc.

I was also wondering what web pages would look like on one, since they (web pages) are written for the "standard" resoultion screens.

Any suggestions?

Good question - I saw a cheaper one at my local retailer the other day and wondered what web pages would like ? I presumed that it would be similar to a 4:3 format film on a widescreen tv with the black borders down the sides.
