    one of my PC's Click!

i've had this one running non-stop for several months now, it has restarted all on it's own when idle about 4 times. this was during the first 6 weeks or so. time between those retarts was a couple days to a few weeks. this has not happened for months now. it doesn't overheat cause i've been doing some kick-ass cpu suckin multi-tasking with shrink, TMPGEnc, vdub etc all on high priority. only has restarted when idle with nothing really open.

now, while the restarts appear to be gone i've noticed once in a while though i hear this slight click (when idle). this may occur 2 times in one day, no more for a few weeks, so not often. when i'm not even using it, monitor off. hard to describe. sounds like some tv sets when shut off by remote, that little "click" they make. i'm not too worried as this is the only thing i can complain about this machine, otherwise it's fantastic in every way. just wondering if anyone has a theory. i don't know much about this, but the only thing i can see making this type of noise is the power supply?

if it would help i can get an everest report. i'll have to do some digging but i know it's in here somewhere...

power supplies do fail, especially after people add burners etc to the computer.

you have blown out the dusts bunnies, 160 psi air applied with discretion and diligent use blows them to heck and back.

I have used a leaf blower, stand way back, outside!

Could be something electronic in there popping.

How about the HDD you got them set to go off after a while or constantly spinning.

well thing is an associate just built this thing and it was only a couple months old with few hours on it, when i installed my TV tuner/capture card it was clean as mr clean in there. this guy has built many great running machines. he's retired and it's his main hobby now.

LT I just remembered it could also be the bushing or bearing in the lil fan for the cpu or power supply too. I had a CPU fan click on startup like crazy until it got up to speed and then only once in a while. The lil fans for the CPU are cheap, the ones in the power supply I dunno.
