Omg I Think I Lost Everything On My Pc!, What Can I Do?!?!?!?! Help!

If you didn't do a reinstall, but rather a recovery, try using Windows Explorer and manually click through the folders in "My Documents" to see if the original photo directories were renamed during the recovery process. What method did you use for system recovery?

If you did a "system restore", you can "undo my last restoration". However, with a restore, you shouldn't have lost anything saved. If you still can't find them after searching and undoing the restore point, you might want to consider finding some kind of data recovery program. Your pics, etc. shouldn't be gone, just the pointers to them.

I have an HP computer and it was built in. However, the GB's are still the same from when I had all my stuff on there. It only free'd up about 3 GB if that. So this means everything is still on there?!?!?!?!?!

I tried doing a search, and found nothing! Nothing is in my documents and other folders. Only thing I see are the programs I had installed myself.

3 GB could be a lot of pictures, I hope not for your sake. That's why you should always burn your pictures and anything else you can't afford to lose to a disc and/or another hard drive. a lot of people make it a habit of backing up their data every week or more often. Did you try to undo your last restoration? Whatever you do, don't defrag until you either get your pictures back or totally give up. I still think they're still there, you just need something to recover them. These programs usually aren't expensive. I can't give any more advice on them as I've never needed one. Good luck and let us know your progress!

Edit:: I just had another thought (need lightbulb here). I assume you have XP, but that shouldn't matter. When you go to search, type in *.jpg and then hit search. that sould pull up anything saved in the jpg format. If you pictures were saved as anything else such as tif or psd (those would be the most common after jpg) do the same thing *.tif *.psd.

It reformated my hard drive BUT my GB are still the same from before I did this.

I think he means he used the HP recovery discs that are on a hidden partion on the hard drive. this is the same as using recovery discs. the option to reformat is there too i think.

I have HP computers,but I never used the recovery system. I have always dumped the pre installed crap and done a fresh install of windows without the huge amount of HP crap.

Well, it sure helps clarify your problem. If it reformated your hard as you state, your pics and probably everything else has been wiped clean. Again, that's why you should back up important documents and pictures on a regular basis. Don't feel too bad, this has happened to most people at one time or another, and it really is frustrating to search everywhere when you know in the back of your mind that you messed up big time. And i don't know how many times I tell myself I have to save this or that to a disc, only to wait till later . Sort of like playing Russian Roulette.

Edit: And Chewy's links clearly state that all data could be lost!

Look on the bright side your hard drive didn't blow up(mine have),
lightning didn't come in and get everything but the case(see that),
I keep a lot of copies of important stuff scattered among cd's dvd's and hard drives. You can never have too many backups.
