A coworker just bought an IBM t30 laptop. The documentation states it uses PC2100 memory. Now I know this may seem like a very silly question, but will PC2700 memory work in his laptop? My first thought was no, but I wanted to check it out here in case it might work.
A basic memory question

Check it out at this web site: http://www.crucial.com
They are the memory experts, just bring up your type of computer and it will give you a selection of the memory that will work. Good company, I have ordered memory from them at least four times, no problems at all.
Wow, Chewy is too fast for me.

Ok, so the site shows that: DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • UNBUFFERED • Non-parity • DDR333 • 2.5V • 32Meg x 64
should work for the laptop, but when the memory is inserted into the second slot it is not recognized. Assuming it is clipped in properly, what should we be checking first to determine the trouble?
Would swapping the PC2700 stick to the first slot and the existing PC2100 to the second slot be of any help?Last edited by vw56german; 14 Aug 2006, 11:56 PM.Comment

I would install ctspeed and everest on the laptop, analyze what's already in there, then swap sticks(if it boots) and analyze the new stick. Then go into bios and see if there are any settings that will relax timings to get the 2 to work together. your 333 may not run at 2100Comment
