    Bios Upgrade Etc

1). How do i check to see if my bios is allowing the dma setting and how do i go about updating my bios ?

2). As you all know , i have been having problem's burning any dvd , except for re-writeable's. I think that i do have a problem in my ide primary ata/33. I did put a new ribbon in ( 80 ) pin one, instead of the ( 40 ) pin one that was in there. To see if that would make any difference. NADA.
My dma status still remains the same ( dma 6 ). I also tried to uninstall my primary ide and xp could NOT find the primary ide again. So i did have to re-install window's once again.
I did update my sony dvd player to the E version. The lastest one that sony has out.

3). On my other computer i run windows 2000. I can delete the primary ide/ controller and it will find it again. BUT............it still won't go into dma mode 5. Also again i have the lastest version of my other dvd burner. ( which is ) advantage. This one is a dvd 8 burn. ( dvd + or -. Trying to work on both and not succeding on either one. I have come to my wit's end on these 2 computer's.

    Help please.

regular ide hard drives use dma 5 and 6, some older ones and motherboards only support dma 4

most optical drives(cd burners, dvd-roms, dvd burners) are dma 2, a few newer ones use dma 4

if you don't understand these basic ideas it's best to leave them alone

I understand the secondary dma mode 2,4 , 5. My secondary ide controller is set at dma 2. Which everyone say's that is ok ! !
Its the fact that when i unistall the primary ide. XP can't find my ide / primary controller.

That is not the point i am really looking for.
Helping me find out what my bios will allow right now with the dma setting's and how to update my bios

on my primary ide controller.........it is dma mode 6. not dma mode 5 .....like it is suppose to be ... as per instruction on how to get your dma mode set to mode 5.

that's why I am afraid to send you into your bios, dma 6 is better than dma 5

those guides are only guides, some computers run hard drives as dma 6
(ata133), other run them as dma 4(ata66).

            your dma's are fine.

              Thanks Chewy;
" IF " that is suppose to be fine. Then why can't i burn any other blank dvd ? I have to go and copy my dma mode to show you what i mean.
