should i change my pc P4 to xeon's?

some friend of mine has asked me if i liked to have one of his servers from dell, i havnt checked the models yet but they are dual 2.2 Ghz xeons,
only worries are they use RDRAM's [crap]

my system specs: Dell Dimension 8300
    Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz, 1 gb dual ddr 400, 400 Gb storage

dell xeon specs [what ill get]

dual xeon 2.2, 1 gb rdram, 37gb harddisk [dont know what kinda harddisk is].

so should i or not ?

oh yeah price he offered in US $ is 350.
Seems like as soon you buy somehing, v. 2 comes out 1.5 times as fast!..!

we had an old PIII? dual server, one of the cpu's had died, took forever to fix,
think we ended up scavaging another for parts.

Should i change my PC ?

ok chewy another question, same guy has few dell optiplex gx280's but this time i may not have to pay him anything as i can sell mine for almost same.

now what i wanna know is how much ill be getting more from DDR2 RAm's and newer lga775 cpu's [newer then mine].

only expense ill be doing is pci express video card as mine was agp.
ill be shifting storage from my old pc.

depending upon the ram you may be downgrading, early ddr2 was lame

is your dual channel cas 2?

my son fried his mobo with the xp mobile cpu(still fine), he's building an amd64 3500 with cheaper asus
nf4 mobo and a new pci express vid card so he can reuse his/mine 2 512 pc3200 cas 2 sticks.

he knocked over a coke onto his gf4 agp card, I loaned him my 5500 card, it fried it!

count on doing a bios flash if it hasn't been done already

premium ram(if supported) is always the way to go

I saw references to 400 ddr2, might want to check up on that

I have been trying to figure out ddr 1 for 2 years now

this is what in my mind.

                    1: flash the bios

2: install windows frm scratch [hoping dell reinstall disk supports optiplex aswell] otherwise fingers crossed for any remaining activations, otherwise have to call.

3: updates and imaged for backup

board supports 400 / 533 so im going for 533 unless some problem u can think off i may get.
