I hope someone can help me on this. I have two internal dvd recorders. One drive has a problem and the other does not. The problem is my slave drive identifies the DVD volume label in, My Computer, as it is supposed to do and when I eject the disk the volume label does not delete and return to the device name. My other drive an HP DVD Writer 640b, operates normally and the DVD volume label disappears and returns to the device name after I eject. I have gone on Microsoft and HP web sites and numerous forums and the only thing I came up with is:
1.to uninstall the drive and reinstall at startup.
2.to reinstall the removable storage drive snap-in.
These solutions did not fix my problem. I do not have a problem putting another disk in the drive, as it will change the volume label to the new one, but I have the same problem again. This problem just started recently after I installed a new drive HP DVD Writer 840d in this bay, built July 2006. the firmware is also up to date. I also ran a register scan before this happened and the only thing it removed were a 6 old program files. I have had this drive for about 30 days and it works good.
A note: a problem that came up before this happened, and I got fixed, was my computer would not identify my 2 external hard drives.I got it fixed when I ran a scandisk . I am not a computer wiz, sort of retired and I am learning how to fix things my self, I hope with a little help from the great folks in this Forum, I can. Thanks
