    monitor problems

    i got a pc off my mate and it used to run the monitor off the agp card but it doesn't have it in now and the monitor can't pick the signal up, can i reset the settings by doing something else as i can't see what i am doing. would taking the CMOS battery out for abit do the trick or not?

    clearing cmos by moving the jumper next to the battery is the prefered procedure, if you can't find the directions then turn off power, pull plug and wait, then pull battery and leave out for a minute

      "no signal" can indicate many possibilities (to name the more obvious) :
      - faulty vid card or socket.
      - faulty/damaged or wrong cable (vid card to mon)
      - faulty or damaged slot on m/board (if not an onboard vid)

      * check cable pins are straight/not missing/bent/broken on plug/socket.
      * make sure the cable is correct type for that monitor.
      * check if slot pins aren't damaged.

      unlikely the monitor is faulty, but not impossible.

        all is ok, once i get some time off work i'll try and take the battery out to clear the cmos
