BenQ, NEC corrupt system ASPI and me

I'm having issues burning an audio CD...any audio CD, DVD's burn just dandy. I've run Nero InfoTool and system ASPI shows as corrupt and Nero's own ASPI is working correctly. I put a blank CD into the drive and tried numerous burning apps to no avail in either burner. The burning app just sits and cycles but does nothing but lock the drive...I have to reboot to unlock the drive to retrieve my still blank CD. I get no error messages, Device Manger shows the drives to be working properly and I'm at my wits end. The problem didn't start until I used the Lightscribe feature of the BenQ, this is only the second label I've printed with this drive and had no issues with the first label. I though it might be an issue with the BenQ until the same thing happened with the NEC drive.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Thanks guys, I'll give them a shot. I would have tried that before posting but the ASPI has been corrupt for a while now and didn't really think it would be the cure. I'll let you all know.

Thanks Chewy I will try that...I was always under the assumption that a corrupt ASPI would yeild erratic results such as burning a CD and not a DVD or vice versa. I haven't heard of it locking a drive before.

LUK talked about chinese whispers when looking for an analogy. Commands pass thru and get garbled. All I know is when it gets too bad windows completely loses your drives.

The problem appears to be fixed...

                1. run KillASPI reboot, no change
                2. Install ASPI, reboot, no change
                3. Install ASPI again, reboot, no change
                4. Read Directions and unpack ForceASPI to a folder and reinstall, no change
                5. *Note to self...read directions next time.
                6. Uninstall Nero and run CCleaner...burning like a champ.

I'll try reinstalling Nero later and see the if the problem is completely corrected and report back.

I am afraid to ask what other programs you are using to burn audio cd's with?

                  Aren't you using windows xp?

Never be afraid chewy....I used WMP for the successful burn and the only other app of that kind I use is iTunes. I am running windows XP.

Oh oh, I knew sooner or later this would come down to Sonic/gear with those aspi problems you are having.

Now you know that I know better than that...

Never touch the stuff, I've seen what can happen.

Use nero to burn audio cd's, cooledit for prep, musicmatch to rip, tag and organize mp3's

one 10 minute cd I made got played professionally 6 nights a week for a year,
luckily the head dj got the next one made by radio station, cause I had forgotten how to do it.
