    Problem Solved Technique Questioned

    Guys

I had a problem because my pc was slow. When I was using shrink it showed 48 hours remaining to finish the job. I couldnt back up with acronis coz it took forever.

Today i learnt how to solve a slow computer problem from my windows xp book. What it says is that you press ctrl + alt+ delete and go and open the perfomances tab. The handle total box is selected and anything using more than 15000 handles is deleted except maybe for svchost.exe....

all of this doesnt make clear sense to me but i did it and only deleted acronis as it was using about 17000 handles. The result has been that i now take two hours to use shrink and can back up with acronis...basically the problem is solved.

My question is whether this process is safe or not...can i delete other files using more than 15000 handles..please let me know if there are other risks

    thanks

that's true for almost any program, shut them down, keep them from loading at bootup, load them manually when needed and only then, reboot fairly often.

does anyone have a problem with their computer being too fast?

Yes. Though putting them on (trojans) was always difficult. Mood always changed by then.

I just went through this this week. Googling those things is a royal pain (I have 86 applications running, as a rule). So I took a short cut. I opened msconfig and disabled everything in the Startup except my external sound card. That worked out just fine. However, IF you are planning on being online while processing your video, be sure and keep your antivirus and trash interceptors running!

well just think of it this way, you were the one that screwed up the computer, maybe with a little help from the manufacturer, but the next time you load a computer you learn to be careful, no I don't want you to load at startup, wait till I need you.

There is a handy lil program called QuickAccess (I think BR7 first posted a link to it) ya can run it when ya want to find out what the processes listed in Task Manager are about.
