I'm pretty new to this game but have been ripping my hair out with this problem.
I have a PC based on the SiS chipset with a Celeron D 2.4GHz and 1GB RAM. There is an Nvidia Geforce FX5200 with 128MB RAM added in.
Problem I have, came about when trying to play video files. Both Mpeg and AVI show the same symptoms, CPU 100% and video just jumps all the time.
If I disable the audio driver, mpeg runs a treat, AVI slightly better but then it just totally hung my PC. I've tried everything including updating to latest BIOS, changing video driver, even tried a different video card. Updated to latest directx and divx codec, still the same.
What really worried me though was when running memtest from a bootable CD, it hangs my system every time at different places. Tried removing alternating memory sticks and it still locks.
I'm guessing that a rebuild is pointless.. is this a hardware failure? and if so, what's most likely? or is the BIOS doing something wacky with the RAM that's affecting the video card(s)?
Thanks for any help.
