New Free Anti-Virus

Does anybody know any other free Anti-Virus in a hurry, please? As we know, Grisoft are giving up AVG Anti-Virus by the 15th. Time is running out and I'd rather use a free one at the moment because I don't want to pay for one yet encase it's crap like Norton. When I asked about a free one, I don't mean a trial, I mean a free one like the free version of AVG that Grisoft gave away.

Many thanks. I'll give that one a go. To be honest, even thought AVG Anti-Virus is good, I don't like the fact that a virus warning only appears for 30 seconds. If I'm downloading any large files and I'm either out or in bed atc and there's a virus in the item, the virus alert will go in 30 seconds and I'll have no idea if an infection is there. Doing a scan on one item is no good because AVG Anti-Virus can't always detect a virus through a manual scan because it skips a lot of files. One time I downloaded a game, scanned for viruses and nothing was detected. I burnt it to a CD and when I began to install it a virus alert appeared. I did another scan and it detected nothing.

Many thanks for the help. I'm still using AVG but I've lost faith in it because one time I downloaded some software one time and I scanned the folder for viruses and nothing was detected. I burnt the software to a CD and when I began to install it a virus alert appeared with a Trojan Horse and luckily I was able to get rid of it. I scanned the folder again in my hard drive by right-clicking on the folder and I chose Scan With AVG Free and nothing was detected again. That is classed as a manual scan and manual scans with AVG are hopeless because the manual scans always skip a lot of files. I know that because if you want to perform a full system scan by clicking on Scan My Computer (as in a manual scan), it skips a lot of files. With me when I found out, it skipped over 25,000 files and the scan took about forty minutes less than it should have. The best way to perform a full system scan is to set the Scheduler, even for a couple of minutes later from when you decide to do a scan and the full system scan when using the Scheduler does do a full system scan.

Another thing about AVG that I dislike is the fact that when a virus alert appears, it's only there for thirty seconds and if you're downloading something that's infected and you're not at your PC for thirty seconds at that time, you'll miss the virus alert, you'll miss the chance to place the virus in the Virus Vault (and catch a virus) and you'll not realise the download is infected and after the download is complete the right-click on the file or folder to perform a manual virus scan would be hopeless as I mentioned with my download.

I hope Avast is better.

I used to use Avast but recently went to active virus shield and found it picked up 3 bits of spyware that Avast, Spybot and Adaware didn't pickup.

Many thanks for the link. Sorry if this is a silly question. Does that link lead to another Anti-Virus or is it an add-on for Avast? I don't want to download and install thinking it's an add-on encase I get another Anti-Virus program and end-up corrupting Avast.

Does anybody know how to set my Avast to perform a deep scan? I can't select the Thorough mode because it's grayed out. Mine is stuck on Standard.

It's a separate AV. It is actually a free branded version of Kasperskey AV.
