there's also an option in device manager to roll back drivers for components that windows xp already has a driver(certified) for and was overwritten after you load other drivers

the problem with many drivers you load is they were written for xp or sp1 and are buggy with sp2

Thanks for all the suggestions and help guys

it is 9:02 PM the computer has been on all day no fan

I've spent most of the day working on it - surfing - typing - burning etc

I'm hoping the AGP driver replacement did it - gonna leave it on for the next few days then close it up and see

Again tanx for everrything - just spending time in the forum I learn so much

      later........

Thats good to hear. It must have been the AGP driver then.
The first time I had problems with that driver, the system just kept on rebooting and I couldn't even get into windows to trouble shoot the damn thing
They tried to Assimilate me and failed!

            tanx abuilder

an yup this one has been a bear I'm wondering now if my old video card is still good?

maybe I'll dig out some parts and cobble together a basic system on the bench and let it run for a few days and see - maybe I can recoup some of the money I paid out for the new one

            ya never know........
