    no video to the monitor

    hi all
problem - I keep loosing video to the monitor but the computer is still runing the only thing I can do is shut down and reboot

it happens at a variety of times with many different applications running -
sometimes just the screen saver to watching a movie full screen - the monitor just goes black and then the box appears that says "no video input"

I have: - checked and reseated every cable plug and board, run every reg cleaner, virus scanner, defrag prog, updated the video drivers, updated the vga chip drivers, replaced the video card, replaced the power supply, changed the ram - different sticks to different slots - run the computer with the side panel off and a fan blowing on the mobo

My set up: kt4 ultra mobo, AMD 2.2 GHz proc, 2 gig ram at 333 MHz, new ATI APG 2006 ALL in Wonder Vid card, new Ultra infinity 500 watt PS

Any suggestions, refernce to sticky, web page, other threads things to try would be greatly appreciated - my final thought is the mobo

    thanks folks

EVEREST Home Edition is a freeware system information, system diagnostics and benchmarking solution for home PC users, based on the award-winning EVEREST Technology....

download this program and let's take a look under the hood,

first with a sensor plain text report right after bootup

another just showing temps after 15-20 minutes and some fairly heavy use and also an overclock report

hate to ask, but any chance the PC is getting into standby mode? check under power options in the control panel

the northbridge is hotter than the cpu

custom build with a real good cpu fan? latest mobo bios but the first revision of that series?

what I was looking for was a high mobo temp, that's usually the northbridge chipset overheating and killing the agp

            my temps
            Sensor Properties:
Sensor Type Winbond W83627THF (ISA 290h)
            GPU Sensor Type National LM63 (ATI-I2C 4Ch)
            Motherboard Name Asus A8V Series

            Temperatures:
            Motherboard 25 °C (77 °F)
            CPU 29 °C (84 °F)
            GPU 34 °C (93 °F)
            GPU Ambient 29 °C (84 °F)
            DW CDW63G0-D00NF0A 36 °C (97 °F)
            Seagate ST3250823AS 35 °C (95 °F)
you didn't load those damn via 4 in 1 drivers did you?

            what's the exact video card?

does your northbridge chipset have a fan that's dirty? loud and dying?

              yup custom built ...

fan and heatsink installed with the cpu - only way the shop would warrenty the mobo and processor

yup did install via 4 in 1 drivers latest - hyperion 5.10a - are these bad? what should I use instead?

Video card in a new ATI ALL-in-Wonder 2006 AGP bought it 2 months ago

Northbridge chipset does not have a fan just a heatsink

when I loaded my computer I left everything at at windows default sp2 and only loaded drivers for what device manager was missing?

do a test and remove the side of case and direct a small room fan into the case and see if it helps

in device manager you can check on the agp driver under system devices and see if you are running windows default

While you have the side off, take a close look at all the capacitors to see if any of them are domed, bloated or leaking.

well let's eliminate the monitor from the equation
redo the test, but this time power down the monitor

                        then power it back up

you may have been pushing the monitor too hard

                        relax the settings

old monitor, new video card doesn't always work

have to get some work done today will work with panel off and fan on to see if it lasts through the day

then will leave on overnight with the minitor off

                          later.....

                            Chewy

Did some web crawling and found on the VIA site that some people have had stability issues with the latest drivers so figured I'd give the AGP drivers a go - tried to unload the via AGP driver to use windows default but could not get windows to do that so I deleated the driver and loaded an older version just the AGP chipset driver

it is 9:48 PM have had the computer running all day with side panel off and fan on it up until about 2:00 this afternoon then turned off the fan - it was right next to me on my desk and getting on my .... well U Know..

I have so far today: had word open almost constantly working on stuff, copied a VHS tape via the ATI all in wonder to my HD and then burned the DVD and the light scribe label, edited some pictures and surfed the web

so far perfect performance - I am going to leave the machine on - no fan and monitor off tonight and see what the morning brings - fingers crossed it may have been the AGP driver - I am still thinking of installing a larger heatsink on the northbridge cause the temps are still 6 - 7 degress higher than the CPU

                            later

4 out 5 of my MOBOs are VIA chipsets and I usually have problems when I use the VIA AGP driver instead of windows default AGP driver. The other VIA drivers don't seem to be to much of a problem, for me anyway.
When you use add remove programs to uninstall the VIA drivers it gives you a choice of which ones to remove, so you can get rid of the AGP driver that way.
