    strange pc error on idle.

Ok this is weird to me but on my computer at work when I leave for the day and come back the next morning the desktop is all screwy and the pixels are messed up like the computer has gone nuts every night and I have to unplug it and then turn it back on it get it back right. It does this every night and this is a new dell with alot of power. I cant turn it off from the start menu bc sometimes its not there and other times its in the middle of the screen. All during the day it runs like a champ though. any thoughts

I have run the error checking and check for bad sectors and defragged virus scanned and everything.

    thanks

That sounds like a power management problem to me.
Go to ….. Control Panel > Display>settings>Advance>Monitor And make sure that “Reset display on suspend/resume” is checked.
They tried to Assimilate me and failed!

leaving it on all the time and rebooting by pulling the power is not doing it any good at all

              power schemes are
              Home/office Desk

              settings are
turn off monitor after 20 mins
turn off HD after 1 hour
              system standby never
              system hibernates never

hope this is what you are after

                change hard drive to never

same for monitor(turn it off manually when you leave)

                see how it goes

then we can eliminate the power schemes if it is still screwed up in the morning

You should try hibernating the computer, this may work this way but make sure you enable hibernation before you hibernate the computer. I hear hibernating the computer is better for the computer instead of rebooting or unplugging it.

Have you tried just shutting the monitor off and turning it back on to see what happens?

I don't know what the cause is but what I do know, Dell PCs are bad news. I'm always hearing about them going wrong. I don't trust Packard Bell, neither. My PC is Q-Tech and I rarely have major problems with it.

                        Darren.

a few years back I heard a story about a engineering professor that was hooking up his new office computer from dell, state of the art/high dollar, he had always bragged he would never buy anything else because of their quality control.

he turned it on and it burst into flames in his office

he had waited like 3 weeks for it to be delivered

the replacement was waiting for him at 8am the next day

now it's hardware(bad) or software drivers

are there any scheduled tasks happening at night?
