our local telco was charging 20$ for dialup then got you to sign for 256K for an extra 5$ then to compete with cable gave you 1,500 for the same price if you add it to the deluxe phone package
since they are rolling out the 8 mega bit service I wonder what their next incentive will be

The $14.95 per month is from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company ordering thru the internet, and you do all the connecting and tweaking yourself, unlimited usage.

Been good, went to the Casio's and won a few bucks !!

I will check-out the features with SBC, probably ready for a change, always hate doing that as all my important email stuff goes to my ISP addy and the General stuff goes my web based addy(s). Will check it out monday.

Are you able to accept phone calls while on the web, or is that a ADD-ON ($$$) ?

      Ciao

Some people don't use the internet much and some only use the internet for e-mailing and surfing the odd web site here and there and they are patient enough to wait. They also feel that all the time they hardly use the internet, they find a Dial-up service cheaper where they pay something per minute instead of paying a Broadband monthly payment where a Broadband monthly payment will cost them more. As I said, some people are patient enough for a web page to download and patient enough to wait for an e-mail to send.

I use my internet a lot in the evenings sometimes and I need Broadband. I pay £24.99 a month for mine. With Dial-up, I used to get cheesed off getting cut off or getting an engaged tone when I wanted to log-in. Sometimes it was engaged so long I felt as if a wedding was coming. I do get the odd problems with my Broadband where the server is down for hours like two days ago but that only lasts for a few hours.

Sorry to read you don't have Broadband, that is strange. I hope your country gets it very soon. You'll love it. I feel bad for you and others that can't get it at the moment. This is news to me because I thought the whole world can get Broadband because it's common PC technology.

        Darren.

Thanks man, i have broadband at work but you can't use it. Download a file and get fired
Broadband will come, i just have to wait.

I use dialup as a backup to my BB (512 Kbps). My dialup is a 150 KBps through my wireless phone and pretty okay in speed. I am waiting for the Wifi BB to start.

$24.99 p/m for DSL Elite with ATT. Very happy with them considering Roadrunner in Florida was charging me $49.99 p/m.

I really don't see a speed difference between going through the phone lines and going though cable, except I would lose cable service at least once a week.

I just tried ordering DSL again and got through the whole on-line process. Then about a week later, I get an E-mail saying that DSL in your area is not available yet. But if I drive down my street I pick up 2 2wire wireless routers/modem combo's in my area. The first one has been here for a while, and then I notice that in my list of wireless connections I see that there is a second 2wire connection now, this was about a week ago or more. I was told by the SBC/ATT rep(which was about 5 years ago) that I would be the next person in line to be able to be hooked up to DSL. I am approximately 1350 feet from the phone company's CO, I am well with in the required distance from the CO. But 10 years later I still can not get DSL. I would like to switch from cable. Comcast charges 44.95 per month for high speed internet connection. DSL would be cheaper and you can select which you want. I am thinking of going back to slow dial-up, it was more reliable than Comcast.

I have to use open DNS in order to improve speed, and to cut down on page not found and various down load problems.
