    Losing Broadband connection on pc's

I touched on this in another thread, but thought I would make a separate one here, more pertinent to the issue.

I have 2 pc's. One is connected at a time directly into my cable modem. I am not working with the router in the mix yet. At random times, I lose the internet connection. Can be after 1/2 day, or a whole day.

If I reboot the pc, the connection returns. Same issue on both pc's, which makes me think that there is a modem problem here. The thing is, I don't really understand how a reboot fixes the modem.

Any comments/ideas/suggestions before I purchase a new modem?

    katz,
that's why we like to keep a continuous thread on each problem, if memory serves me right the cable guy asked you if you had a router, they changed something on their end

well at least that's my theory and I am sticking to it

Chewy, if you want to merge threads, go ahead. I just didn't want confusion with the problems & people thinking that it may be related to the 2 pc/router setup.

if memory serves me right the cable guy asked you if you had a router, they changed something on their end
He asked me because he saw a new address/number when he did a history on my modem logs. But as far as I know, I don't believe they changed anything.

I called in to tech yesterday, & they know how it is connected right now, & said I didn't need to call when I install the router - that all the configuring would happen automatically.

Yeah, I know everything is a mini computer; I have to turn my cell phone off every night to reboot it. Even had to reboot the remote for my Sat. TV once before!

What do you think about the modem? It doesn't seem like normal behaviour to have to reboot it every couple of hours...

I did unplug a couple of times with it powered on...I don't make a habit of it.

my daughter trashed her usb wireless adapter by unpluging it with the computer running, she likes to borrow mine now, I said wait till it's off

                    cat5 is not that sensitive

kind of wonder if it's confusing your modem tho

Katz, check if your PC goes to sleep mode or not.

No sleep mode, no screensaver, no hibernate. Always on.

EDIT: I powered down the pc & modem, disconnected power all night to see if letting it sit "cold" would reset anything that may not be right.

I will post back with results.
