    Antivirus problem

Everything was fine until last night. I updated my AVG antivirus program. Then I no longer had internet access of any kind. I would disable AVG and my internet was back. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled. Same problem. I uninstalled AVG and installed Avast. Same problem. Firewall disabled. The only way I can have internet is to shut down the antivirus program. I've done a system restore and cleaned the registry with CCleaner.
    Any ideas?

System restore back how far? Maybe go back a month or more, if you can.

Curious; did AVG / Spybot come up with a lot of nasties?

I've gone into the registry and manually deleted all traces of AVG. Now I have Avast. When it's running, I have no internet access. When it's disabled, my internet access is fine. I don't understand how 2 antivirus programs would be giving me the same problem.

sounds like avg hosed windows, try uninstalling your connecting hardware,
whatever it is and reinstall and then check properties in your browser

you didn't give us any specifics to go on?

                  Cable.
I just tried Antivir. Same problem. It can't be software related. 3 programs with the same problem. Device manager shows no problems. I thought that something in the registry changed but a system restore didn't help.
                  I tried IE7 and Firefox.

                      I fixed the problem.
I have disabled ZoneAlarm firewall weeks ago from my startup. There was nothing I could find that showed anything relating to ZoneAlarm running yet I just noticed that it was still creating .tmp files in my Windows/Temp folder. They were dated today. I completely uninstalled ZoneAlarm and reinstalled AVG. Everything is fine. Go figure.
I do thank you for your time in trying to track this down.
